Our quote for the week is, "A person's a person, no matter how small. Respect for ourselves guides our morals, respect for others guides our manners."

October character trait of the month is respect.  Respect is when you treat people with consideration and courtesy and do not violate them physically or verbally.  You are tolerant of differences in each other and value their opinions.  Having self-respect is the foundation for any healthy relationship and involves making wise choices, expressing feelings appropriately, and chosing positive friendships.

Once again this month, Ms. Giraud is holding a contest for the best poster with the theme of respect.  Prizes are given, turn all posters in by tomorrow Oct 25th.  See the example in the commons area.

West Minico Spirit Shirts will be on sale in the commons before school or from Mrs. Borden for $10

Taking sign-ups now for our middle school bowling program.  Any 6th through 8th grader is welcome to participate on Mondays and Wednesdays starting November 2nd for three weeks.  There will be  a bus to take you to Snake River Bowl, but parents must pick you up at 5:30.  There are also two meets one in Burley and one in Twin Falls you will be attending.  The cost is $30.  If you would like more information forms are in the office.

Hallo-grams are on sale from any student council member through Wednesday October 26th. Buy one, and send a treat to your friends for .50 treats will be delivered right before the dance.

On Monday Red Ribbon Week kicks off with Red Out Drugs!  With everyone wearing red.  There will be dodgeball at lunch for the activity.  Tuesday is "We're Tu-Tu Cool for Drugs" and students are asked to wear tu-tus with a three legged race at lunch. On Wednesday it is Say no to Tabaccy and just be wacky!" Just be wacky and we'll have a Wii Dance at lunch.

Red Ribbon Week is Oct. 24-28 watch for our daily themes, and how you can dress up to show your commitment to be drug free.  The week will end with our Halloween dance on Friday.  You may wear your costume to school on Friday the 28th of October for the Halloween dance, students must have $2 admission or their activity card to attend.  There will be no costumes on Monday, October 31st.

We would like to recognize our students of the week for last week as being role models for other students through being respectful, responsible, being concerned about academics, and compassionate towards others.  Students for last week are Claire Neibauer, Samantha Casey, Jack Nielsen, Sage May, Noah George, Lillana Vergara, Juan Ochoa, Shylo Voelker, Jaegger Rassmussen, and Addison Stoker.

Be the reason someone smiles today!  Choose to be kind and considerate towards others!

We encourage our parents to use Powerschool regularly to check on their child's grades. If you need help please contact Mrs. Sayer our counselor.
We would like to remind our parents that we offer after school tutoring for all students neededing to improve their grades every Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:15 until 5:00 PM.  Parents may request this extra help for their child.
All activities and school announcements are on the West Minico School website at all times and are updated daily, so check it out if you ever have any questions about school activities.  School closure information will also be updated as soon as received on our school website.
Our school custodians work very hard to make our school look nice.  We would appreciate everyone picking up after themselves in the commons area and hallways.  Please take pride and do your part to make sure our school is the best.
We want all of our students to get caught reading and encourage students to have their reading book in every class so that if they finish their work they will be able to read.
We would like to remind everyone that Minidoka County School District has an attendance policy.  If students miss more than 3 days during the trimester they are required to make up time or lose your credit.  It is very important to be in class each day to be successful.
Our student council has a special request to all students returning to West Minico this year; If you see someone who is struggling to make friends or being bullied because he or she doesn't have many friends or is shy or not dressed in the coolest of clothes--Please step up!  Say hi or at least smile at them or talk to them in the hallways and commons area.  You never know what that person might be facing outside of school.  Your kindness might just make a big difference in someone's like.  Maybe even your own.

There are two Saturday School sessions each month starting promptly at 7:00 until 11:00 AM here at West Minico. Students must have a parental permission form signed to attend.  Forms were sent home with all students through advisory and additional forms are in the office.  If you have failing grades and need to turn in late work this is an opportunity to help your grade.  Students must bring sufficient materials to work on during the four hour period.  You must have everything with you as the lockers and teachers will not be available to gather materials.  You must be responsible and doors will close at 7:10 AM.  Take advantage of this opportunity if you have failing grades or want to improve your grade.  This is not  punishment, but a chance to help improve your grade. First trimester dates are October 15th and 22nd, November 12th and 19th.
