West Minico Bond Changes
Our District is growing! There are new homes being built throughout our various communities, with visible developments in both Heyburn and Paul. With these new homes come new students and we need to be prepared for that growth!
With funds generated with the passing of the Bond we would be able to make the following changes at West Minico Middle School:
- Add six classrooms. In order to accommodate increasing student numbers we will be adding six classroom on the south end of the building. These classrooms would effectively wrap around the two existing classrooms, one each to the east and west of the current classrooms and a bank of four classrooms all along the south side of these.
- Expand the commons area. The new front entrance to West Minico would be just to the east of the current auditorium doors. This would enclose the auditorium entrance providing additional security for that room. The existing exterior wall would be removed allowing much of the area where the picnic tables are now to become part of the commons area.
- Provide additional front entrance security. In order to provide for a more secure entrance and more effective lock down options, the separate entrance will be located on the south side of this addition. Visitors would be directed to this door where they would be able to communicate with the school secretary prior to being ‘buzzed in’ by the secretary to enter the rest of the building. If they are just picking up their child for an appointment, or dropping them off, they would not need to enter the building proper. This feature would most likely only be enforced once school got underway in the morning.
- Expanded office area. The new front entrance and secure access would include additional space for the secretary which would free up some space in the current office location.
Current Supplemental Levy funds are being used to address tile issues in the weight room and to patch, seal coat and restripe the parking lot.
Future Supplemental Levy funds would be used to update paint and floor needs throughout the building.
