Student Body President
Duties
During the summer, we have two retreats where we plan out the year. As Student Body President, you not only are required to attend, but you plan them. We have a lot of fun and you get to know your fellow officers. The one that must be first is the Student Body retreat. You help StuBo plan the yearly calendar with activities- scheduled. A big focus is on Homecoming choosing a theme, etc. You also prepare for the upcoming Freshman Orientation. The second retreat is the Student Council retreat. They will spend most of the time planning details for Homecoming. You will make schedules and menus for both retreats.
You are in charge of facilitating any tours needed for class reunions during the summer or the school year. You need to arrange for enough tour guides and make sure the building will be open and then secured when the tour(s) are finished.
After the retreats, comes Freshman Orientation. That day, you give tours of a portion of the school and you help Freshmen find their classes. This is a great way to get to know the underclassmen and it really helps them familiarize themselves with campus.
You will be the one to make announcements each morning. Be sure to arrive a few minutes early, so you can peruse through the announcements ahead of time. That way you won’t look or sound unprepared.
You are over Homecoming and will be in charge of one area. The other areas will be assigned to other officers, but ultimately the success factor lies with you.
At Minico we have quite a few assemblies. You are the one who announces at these assemblies. Others can announce parts, but you welcome, keep control, and announce the most. It is your responsibility to plan and run at least one, and to help at all the others. There will be assembly checklists for each assembly. You are also needed to clean up after assemblies.
Many times during class, you will be sent around campus on simple assignments. These include taking pictures for Freshman activity cards, collecting cans for Souper Bowl, collecting money for the Gift of Green, or to take counts on dress-up days during Homecoming and Spring Fling. Everyone has a route to make things go faster. We usually divide the school in fourths and each route has two people on it.
Every trimester, we give our teachers a big thanks for all that they do. Someone is put in charge of Teacher Appreciation at retreat, but everyone helps out. In the past, we’ve given out cinnamon rolls at faculty meetings, put chips and dip in the Teacher’s Lounge after parent-teacher conferences, and given out water bottles with attached Crystal Light packets. We also had a big breakfast during 3rd trimester, but do not be afraid to make some changes and try something different.
You are over planning elections. Ms. Smith will make the arrangements with East and West Minico, but you will help plan everything. You will run at least one of Minico’s assemblies. The new Student Body President will run East and West’s assemblies.
You are also in charge of running the Senate (class officers) meetings 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Ms. Smith will help with the agenda, but you run the meeting.
If we need to hold a disciplinary council, you will run that. It needs to be carried out through Robert’s Rules-using Parliamentary Procedure. There is a document that explains what you need to do. We also have a committee that will help decide on consequences.
It is nice if you can choose a project that is your “gift” to Minico High School. You can work on that all year.
Be a friend to everyone!
When it comes to planning out activities, assemblies, projects, etc. make sure you check with Ms. Smith if something is needed or has been left out. Always make sure you have things planned out, and keep in mind on what could happen if things go wrong. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. It’s better to ask and know exactly what you need to be doing, than to be left in the dark.
Basically, you are in charge of whatever is not assigned to someone else.
Student Body Vice President
Daily Duties
As Student Body Vice President, you are in charge of a number of things. Whenever the President is absent, you and your Co-Vice President (there are two at Minico) are in charge. Most of the time, your Advisor will have your assignments for the day ready and waiting when you get to class. Also, make sure you check your “mailbox” for any Red Hots application papers or anything else from the Club Presidents (more on Red Hots and Club Presidents later).
Job Specific Duties
One of your many duties as Vice President is to run the Club President’s Meetings. Club President’s Meetings are held during 5th period (2:45 p.m.). These meetings are usually held the first week of every month. In the past we have had these meetings on Mondays, but this year we went with Tuesday because more people attended. In preparation for these meetings, you need to compile an agenda, type it up, put an announcement in a few days in advance, and make sure you have the roll sheets ready. Also, emails should be sent on Monday, and reminders should be sent to club presidents either by text or word of mouth. These meetings are really important during Homecoming Week and Gift of Green. At the meetings, make sure you encourage the clubs to get involved and give them their Red Hots when they do.
You are also in charge of keeping the club/class cases clean and updated. Ideally you will get the clubs and classes to do this.
You are also in charge of the Homecoming Queen’s Assembly and the voting for Homecoming Royalty. During the Club Presidents Meeting before Homecoming, make sure you tell the Clubs they will need a senior boy and girl from their club, if they want to participate. Candidates will need to have a video prepared for the assembly. Make sure you collect these and test them a week and a half before the assembly in case they don’t work or need to be changed. You are also in charge of finding judges for the videos. Ask teachers who are not associated with any club, and be sure to give them some sort of thank you after the assembly is over. Follow your assembly checklist to make sure your assembly is well planned. Games keep the attention of the students because students tend to talk a lot when videos are played without any breaks. For voting, you need to have ballots with all the candidates, their club, and a number if you use bubble sheet ballots. In the past, we have done voting in Advisory or by coming to The Hub to vote. We have more participation when do the voting in Advisory. Be sure you buy crowns for the royalty (tiaras for the girls and Burger King crowns filled with candy for the guys). We crown the Royalty at the Pep Assembly on the Friday of Homecoming Week.
Your third duty is to keep the Red Hots display case up to date. The Red Hots Competition is a contest designed to encourage the clubs and classes to get involved with the school activities and take part in their own service projects, and then reward them when they do. The display case in the main hallway (next to all the State trophies) is where the Red Hots case is located. Stay on top of the Red Hots. It’s really easy to do them when there are only two or three submissions, but when they pile up it becomes a chore. We buy the Red Hots from Farmer’s Corner in Burley. We have a Club/Class Points System Binder -- inside is everything you need to keep up with Red Hots. There is a Points Table where you can find out how many points to give for each activity. Also, you should keep the roll for Club Meetings in this binder and the hours they turn in for Red Hots. At the end of the year, the clubs who win the competition receive a reward party where we serve Root Beer floats.
Finally, you are in charge of getting paperwork from the Clubs during Gift of Green. At your monthly meeting before Gift of Green, you need to find out which clubs are helping a family, so they can get their share of the money that we raise throughout the week.
Other Duties
During the summer, we have a retreat where we plan out the year. As an officer, you are required to go. We have a lot of fun and you get to know your fellow officers. You also prepare for the upcoming Freshman Orientation.
After retreat, comes Freshman Orientation. That day, you give tours of a portion of the school and you help Freshmen find their classes. This is a great way to get to know the underclassmen and it really helps them familiarize themselves with campus.
At Minico we have quite a few assemblies and it is your responsibility to plan and run at least one, and to help at all the others. Follow your assembly checklist if you are not sure what you’re supposed to do. You are also needed to clean up after assemblies.
When it comes to planning out activities, assemblies, projects, etc. make sure you check with Ms. Smith or any of your fellow officers if something is needed or has been left out. Always make sure you have things planned out, and keep in mind on what could happen if things go wrong. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. It’s better to ask and know exactly what you need to be doing, than to be left in the dark.
Student Body Secretary
There is a lot that this position entails, but as long as you keep up with your jobs there will be no problems. The jobs are in order according to the time they need to be done.
Every day you will be expected to do whatever the student body president asks or whatever the advisor needs you to do. This job is not a huge one on a day to day basis, so you should usually be available to run errands for whoever needs you to.
Another job specifically monthly for you will be to take notes at meetings. During second and third trimesters we have monthly Senate meetings, run by the Student Body President. You will take notes at that meeting. Any time we debrief or discuss things in class, you will need to take notes. We sometimes have school climate committee meetings once a month; you will be responsible for taking notes and presenting the notes at the next meeting.
You will need to type notes up within a couple of days of each meeting and put them in a binder. You also need to put them on a jump drive and turn them in to Ms. Smith to transfer to her computer.
You also will be obligated to sign up for the Agora store, along with the rest of the officers.
You will help with teacher appreciation once a trimester along with the other officers.
Each year you will be expected to attend the summer retreat, help with the Freshman Orientation assembly and the school tour for the incoming freshman. You will be responsible to take pictures for the Freshman activity cards, collect cans for the Souper bowl, and help with the whole week of homecoming. You will be expected to attend the IASC state and regional conference, collect money for the Gift of Green, help plan and facilitate East\West\Minico retreat, and help with the entire week of Spring Fling.
Student Body Treasurer
There is a lot that this position entails, but as long as you keep up with your jobs there will be no problems. The jobs are in order according to the time they need to be done.
Every day you will be expected to do whatever the student body president asks or whatever the advisor needs you to do. This job is not a huge one on a day to day basis, so you should usually be available to run errands for whoever needs you to. Something smart to do is always check for receipts every day just to keep you more organized.
Every week you will be responsible for filling out purchase orders for whatever the other officers need. Another responsibility on a weekly basis will be to fulfill your purchase orders, which means go shopping. This is not something that only the treasurer will do, but because most of the time you fill out the purchase orders, you will know the items, the prices, and where to get the things you need. An example of this would be homecoming week. There are a lot of things needed for lunch time activities and the assemblies during the week, and this is where you will fill out several purchase orders to several different places. To make this more organized, make sure you know the account number, the address of the vender, the phone number of the vender, and the process to take it to Mrs. Blincoe and get the purchase card so you do not have to ask questions and you can just do it. Knowing this will make things less stressful and more smoothly. The biggest job of the treasurer will be to update the ledger. Do not take this lightly. This is an important job in which you will be held accountable for making sure your ledger is close to the ledger Mrs. Blincoe gives to you. She will usually give you one every month. So if you take the advice on the daily check for receipts you will be organized and know what receipts have gone through and what receipts are still open. Make sure you check with Mrs. Blincoe for any questions or changes to the ledger. Ask the advisor first if there are questions on what the purchase was or the price, then go to Mrs. Blincoe for questions on anything else. Although you do not have a correct, updated ledger every week you will most likely have receipts every week. My advice to you would be put everything in and then change prices and things when you get the correct ledger because sometimes you will catch mistakes and that will cause you to be off. It would be a good question to ask if your receipt says one price and the ledger Mrs. Blincoe gives you says another.
Every month you will be in charge of T-shirt sales along with the rest of the student body officers. You will have a specific job to be in charge of the money and the receipts and turning it into the office. Again make sure you are up to date with the ledger Mrs. Blincoe gives to you by making changes to yours.
You also will be obligated to sign up for the Agora store, along with the rest of the officers.
Each trimester you will be in charge of keeping the ledger up to date as usual. It is smart to look at how much you spend for an average activity like an assembly so you can continue to budget and also keep record of the average for the people to come. You will help with teacher appreciation once a trimester along with the other officers and work in the agora store when you are scheduled.
Something I wish I would have done is create a budget for the entire year, this will help a lot if when you are purchasing things so you can budget for everything you need.
Student Body Historian/Media Specialist
Every day you will be expected to do whatever the student body president asks or whatever the advisor needs you to do.
Your main job is to create an end of the year video for the end of the year assembly. Everyone will help gather pictures, but you will put them all together. This will require countless hours of sorting through pictures to choose the best ones. Much of your class time will be spent doing that.
When needed, you will be in charge of T-shirt sales along with the rest of the student body officers.
Student Body Public Relations Officer
Daily
On a daily basis, you will need to be willing to help with any jobs being done. As the Public Relations Officer, you will have many jobs that are unique to your position, but that does not mean that you don’t have to do anything besides those jobs.
Weekly
You are supposed to change the bulletin board by the office bi-monthly; however, if the bulletin board is outdated before the two weeks is up, you will need to change it before then. Likewise, you will need to leave some things up in the bulletin board if they last longer than two weeks (this does not happen very often though—don’t use it as an excuse to not change the board!). This board is in a place where everyone sees it, so use it as to tool to keep the school updated on important events. Also keep in mind that the people who come to the games will see this bulletin board, so try to make it look extra nice. Another weekly job is to send an email to all school faculty and staff. This email should include the dates and times of sports games, school concerts, assemblies, or any other activity that you think the teachers would be interested in hearing about.
Monthly
You need to submit an article to the Times News and the Weekly Mailer. This article is supposed to be about what Student Council has been doing. It does not need to be very long—a paragraph or two will do. You can submit this same article to the IASC Newsletter that comes out quarterly. Ms. Smith will usually receive an email telling when the due date is, so just email the article back and include a picture if you have one.
The Spartan Chronicle is now online, so it is your job to submit articles to Mrs. Carrington.
Once a trimester, you will need to help with Teacher Appreciation. There is a separate description for that.
There will be an assembly every month, and, although you will not be in charge of every assembly, you will need to be willing to help plan and give ideas for the assembly if needed. You will also need to help at the assembly with anything you are assigned and make sure to wear the right shirt since we usually all wear the same shirt to assemblies.
Annually
In the summer, you will need to attend the Retreat. It is very important that you fit this activity into your summer schedule! At the retreat, we plan the calendar for the year, start planning Homecoming, design shirts, and give out assignments for all the activities during the year. If you miss this, you will be totally out of the loop and will probably be assigned to things you don’t want to do. You will also miss out on a lot of fun!
You will help with the Freshman Orientation assembly and the school tour for the incoming freshman. You will be responsible to help take pictures for the Freshman activity cards.
During Homecoming Week, you will need to help out with everything going on. You will receive specific assignments for this when it gets closer.
You will help collect cans for the Souper Bowl. You will collect money for the Gift of Green, help plan and facilitate East\West\Minico retreat, and help with the entire week of Spring Fling.
You will also need to attend the Spring IASC Conference and the Fall IASC Conference if we go. These conferences are really helpful for making you a better leader, and they also give you lots of ideas for activities. Figure out the dates for these conferences at the beginning of the year so you can put them on your calendar because you don’t want to miss them! They are a lot of fun!
Student Body Community Public Relations Coordinator
The community Public Relations Coordinator is appointed and their main focus is public relations with the community. He or she will have most of the same responsibilities as the other Public Relations Coordinator.
His or her bulletin boards are focused on showing off Minico’s and Minico’s students accomplishments.
He or she will submit articles to the newspapers on a regular basis.
With the other coordinator, they will make a rotation for our display cases and keep them clean. They will also fill any club cases that are not being used.
They will help during assemblies by photographing much of what takes place.
They will have assignments for all activities just like all student body officers-see Public Relations Office.
This position can be filled by a junior, a senior, or even a sophomore.
Student Body Activities Coordinator
The student body activities coordinator should complete any assignment the Student Body President or the Advisor asks them to do on a daily basis.
Every week, they need to make sure that they have all of the activity sheets filled out for any activity in the following two weeks. It is easiest if they fill out all of the activity sheets near the beginning of the year, so that they don’t forget later.
On a monthly basis, if held, they must attend the School Climate Committee meeting. This will take place during 6th period.
They must help plan and run all assemblies planned during the month, and help clean up after each one. They should make sure that their second hour teacher knows that they have to help clean up.
Each trimester, they need to help with the Teacher Appreciation project. They are not necessarily required to plan it, but they must help carry out a project that shows their appreciation to the teachers.
The activities coordinator needs to work in the Agora Store whenever we sign up.
Before the school year starts, it is required that the Student Body Activities Coordinator attend the summer retreat. It will usually be somewhere nearby so that it does not conflict with any other events.
They need to help with the Freshman Orientation Assembly and school tour on the freshmen’s first day of school.
They need to help schedule who is doing what during the Homecoming and Spring Fling lunchtime activities.
During Homecoming week, he/she must dress up each day according to the assigned topic, and help with the homecoming activities.
They must help schedule for decorating and cleaning up of Homecoming Dance. Decorating usually takes place Friday night, after the Homecoming game. Clean up can take place on Sunday. If each member of Student Body brings their family, both of these will go much faster.
He/she should help coordinate the Souper Bowl, and help set up the map routes. They will also need to collect and sort canned food for the Souper Bowl.
They need to attend the IASC Fall Conference.
During Gift of Green week, they need to help with collecting money, and they will need to help with the Gift of Green Assembly.
The activities coordinator should help plan and facilitate the East/West/Minico retreat in the spring.
For Spring Fling, he/she will need to help schedule who is doing what for the lunchtime activities. They will also need to help with and participate in the activities. This includes dressing up.
The Student Body Activities Coordinator is also required to attend the IASC Spring Conference.
Student Body School Board Representative
Daily
Every day the School Board Representative (SBR) should be prepared to do whatever the student body president or advisor asks of them.
Weekly
Each week they should make sure the suggestion lockers are checked. If another has already checked them, the SBR does not need to check them again.
Monthly
Each month the SBR is to attend the School Board meeting that is held on the third Monday of every month. Prior to the Board meeting, they must send an agenda to the School Board clerk, they must present to the class and to MHS administration. They must present to the school board the activities that have been going on and the projects Student Council and Student Body officers have been working on. They are to update the school board on sports and specific achievements or competitions of students from Minico. They must also bring back a report with concerns, suggestions, and assignments from the board.
Throughout some months Student Council will be working on specific projects and the SBR will be required to help plan and carry out the project.
SBR is in charge of making sure invitations are given to school board members for things such as homecoming activities, big assemblies, Freshman Orientation, etc.
Trimesters
Each trimester the SBR helps with teacher appreciation and does everything they can to help plan and carry it out.
Once or possibly more than once each trimester they need to help in the Agora store.
Annually
Every summer we have the summer retreat and the SBR will need to attend.
Each year we have freshman orientation and a school tour for the freshman. The SBR is required to help with this.
For activity cards the Student Body officers go and take the pictures of every Freshman student at Minico and keep the right names with the right faces.
Throughout the Souper bowl, student body collects cans and sorts them into different boxes for the needy.
SBR is required to help with all homecoming activities assigned to them which includes dressing up every day as assigned.
They need to attend the IASC Fall Conference.
During Gift of Green week, they need to help with collecting money, and they will need to help with the Gift of Green Assembly.
They need to help facilitate the East/West/Minico retreat in the spring.
For Spring Fling, they will need to help with and participate in the activities. This includes dressing up.
They are also required to attend the IASC Spring Conference.
Student Body Renaissance Coordinator
The Renaissance Coordinator is mainly in charge of all Renaissance activities. The purpose of Renaissance is to award students who achieve academic success by getting good grades and by participating in the classroom.
Each trimester, the Renaissance Coordinator is in charge of passing out the gold, silver, and white Renaissance cards and stickers to the students. You need to talk to the Renaissance administrator (currently Mr. Vogt) about printing the Renaissance cards. Once the Renaissance administrator gives you the cards, you are in charge of cutting them out. As you cut them, it is easiest to cut three pages at a time. In order to easily sort the cards by teachers, it is easiest to cut one page of gold, one page of silver, and one page of white at the same time so the students in each class are somewhat grouped together. Once the cards are organized, cut the Renaissance stickers. Attach the appropriate amount of stickers to the corresponding cards (3 gold cards=3 gold stickers, etc.). Deliver the cards and stickers to each teacher so they can pass them out to either their first hour classes or their advisory classes depending on what you and the advisor decide. All students, including those without activity cards, may receive the card and the sticker. You are also in charge of putting the incentive lists in Ms. Smith’s room, the library, and the office.
The Renaissance Coordinator is in charge of choosing one Renaissance student of the month, one teacher of the month, and one classified staff member of the month for each of the months from August to May. You must send out an email to all the faculty members asking them which students, teachers, and classified staff members they would like to nominate (Ms. Smith has the file). It would be a good idea to add to the nomination slip the reason for the faculty member’s nomination. When you get the slips returned, it is your job to go through all of the names. Those students, teachers, and classified staff members who receive the most votes are the ones who deserve the award. If a tie occurs between several students, it is your job to pick the nominee who best deserves the award. You can have Ms. Smith or Mrs. Reddington check the students’ grades on Powerschool, or you can ask individual teachers which students are the best in class.
You need to have prizes for each person recognized. Every person who receives this award gets a printed certificate signed by you and the principal. For the students, we usually get them a movie pass, a food certificate, and a laser light key ring. For the teachers and classified staff members, we usually get them a basket full of fun school items. You have the authority to choose what you want to give them all. All awards should be put in manila folders, if possible, with the recipients’ names on them.
Once you have chosen the students, teachers, and classified staff members of the months, you must announce their names and award them their prize at an assembly. It works really well if you combine the Renaissance assembly with another assembly. However, you must have the Renaissance awards announced in two separate assemblies. In the first one, you announce August through December, and in the other, you announce January through May. You should have the class presidents of each grade announce the students of the months in their grade. Then at the end, you should announce the teachers and classified staff members of the months. Have all the award winners come down to the front to get their award. Assign other members of the student body to take pictures of everyone as they come down.
All of the Renaissance award winners must have their pictures taken. Then you must ask Ms. Smith to have them printed. Once they are printed, you must use Ms. Smith’s tape gun to put each individual’s name on their picture. Then you frame the pictures and put them in the bulletin boards for each grade.
Near the end of the year, a Renaissance evening assembly is put on for the whole area, honoring one freshman, one sophomore, one junior, and one senior from each school. You help with choosing those students using nomination forms again. The students of the year are selected from the students of the months. That is why it is so important that the most deserving students are chosen for the students of the months. Every few years Minico hosts the student of the year program. If the recognition night is held at Minico, remember to make programs and have refreshments ready for everyone.
Other responsibilities of the Renaissance Coordinator are to participate and help with all of the activities Student Body holds at school. You must attend the summer retreat, help with the Freshmen orientation assembly and school tour, take pictures for Freshman activity cards, gather and sort cans for the Souper Bowl, help with Homecoming (especially the job given specifically to you), attend the IASC Fall Conference, collect money for Gift of Green, help with the Gift of Green Assembly, help plan and facilitate the East/West/Minico retreat, help run election assemblies, attend the IASC Spring Conference, help with and participate in all Spring Fling activities (including dressing up), attend the Climate Committee meetings, help with teacher appreciation (once a trimester), and work in the Agora Store. Also, do anything the Student Body President or Advisor asks.
Broadcasting Coordinators
Daily
Your job will include any tasks asked by your Advisor or Student Body President.
Announcements
The Broadcasting Coordinators are responsible for getting important announcements out to the school, with the exception of A.M. announcements. The job is to work with Broadcasting Technicians to broadcast announcements live over the Channel One televisions. You start by leaving 6th period (which should be the student council class and you need to leave around 2:30) and going to the front office to collect all the announcements that have been submitted (also remember to check your box in Ms. Smith’s room). Then you take them to the Green Room where the broadcast takes place, and also where the broadcasting technician will meet you to do his job. Your job is to type the announcements into the prompt that your anchors will read. After you have the prompt typed, you need to take the announcements back to the office and get back to the green room to do the practice run. The practice run will take place at 2:57 so you need to have your anchors there by 2:45. For the practice run, you need to leave the Green Room to Mrs. Shippen’s Channel One television where you check to make sure everything is running correctly, including sound and video. The live run over the school will take place at 3:07 every afternoon. For the live run, your job is to make sure everything runs correctly and efficiently. On shortened bell days or if there are technical difficulties, you are to do announcements over the intercom.
Assemblies
For assemblies you have a big job. Usually you will be out of first hour to set up your equipment in the main gym. First off you need to get the keys, the flag remote (garage door opener), and the wireless microphones from Mrs. Miller’s office. Next is to get the sound box from the storage room (the door by The Hub). Take these items into the east side of the gym and there is a wooden sound cabinet. Unlock it with the keys, and also turn on the amplifiers on the southwest corner of the gym (they are in a black box at eye-level. You will need the keys). Now you need to set up the equipment. Always test the flag dropper and make sure you have extra batteries for the microphones. Never leave this equipment unattended! Always make you return the keys and flag dropper to Mr. Mrs. Miller as well. If you need visuals for an assembly, you will need a projector, an extension cord (found in the sound cabinet), and a cart from Ms. Smith’s room. Also you will need to get a screen to hang over the edge of the north rail. Usually you will use one of the big tarps we use for the dances. Always test the videos beforehand!
Drive-In
For the Drive-In movie your job is to set up all the sound and the video. To set up the audio you get the two amplifiers out of the room with the sound box in it and the smaller sound box out of Mrs. Miller’s office. Ms. Smith will have the projector and your job is to hook up the DVD player to this projector and the amplifiers on the back wall of the school. Also you will need to arrange the hanging of one of the tarps off the wall by Mr. Baird (Head Custodian). Also you will need to help the rest of the council with setting up everything else.
Sports Activities
Every so often you will be asked to set up sound equipment for football games or basketball games. This is a generally easy task. For football games, just get a person to help you and carry the sound box out to the announcer’s stand in the bleachers (Do NOT roll the sound box across the parking lot! It will destroy the wheel and the sound box will fall apart!) There will be a desk in the far corner of the stand. Just set the box on this desk and hook it up as you would in the gym. Basketball games have the same procedure as assemblies except use the corded microphone instead of the wireless. Also you will have to set up the scoreboard, but most of the time Mr. Holbrook will set this up for you.
Broadcasting Technicians
Daily
Your job will include any tasks asked by your Advisor or Student Body President.

The job is to work with Broadcasting Technicians to broadcast announcements live over the Channel One televisions. You start by leaving 6th period. You go to the Green Room where the broadcast takes place, and also where the broadcasting coordinators will meet you. Your job is to get everything ready for the practice run and final broadcast. The practice run will take place at 2:57 so the coordinators need to have the anchors there by 2:45. The coordinators will go in Mrs. Shippen’s room to be sure everything is coming through the system correctly. The live run over the school will take place at 3:07 every afternoon. For the live run, your job is to make sure everything runs correctly and efficiently. On shortened bell days or if there are technical difficulties, the coordinators will do announcements over the intercom.

Disciplinary Board Proceedings
When conducting a Disciplinary Counsel, a formal attitude is required. The proceedings of the meeting must be handled as formally as possible. Become familiar to an extent with Robert’s Rules of Order or Parliamentary Procedures to conduct the meeting in a formal, judicial-type fashion.
Upon the start of the meeting, ask the secretary present at the meeting to call roll of the board members present before beginning the official business of the meeting.
After the roll has been taken, begin by introducing the defendant or student on trial, for which the counsel was held and the purpose for the meeting. State what infraction caused the meeting to take place.
Share with the board all evidence that has been disclosed concerning the event or infraction, and then turn the time over to the defendant to share their story of what took place, and allow them to make a plea as to whether they feel if they are guilty or innocent of the charges brought against them by the board.
After the defendant has spoken, open the floor to the board for questioning the defendant concerning their involvement with the case and any question relevant to the matter.
When there are no further questions by the board, dismiss the defendant for board discussion of a verdict.
When discussing a verdict, be reasonable and prepared to answer any questions that any board member may have concerning your knowledge of the case.
Ask for a motion to be made on a verdict after it seems there has been sufficient discussion, and then ask for a second to the motion.
After there has been a second to the proposal, you call for a vote. You can call for a vote by asking each board member individually whether they are for or against the motion by asking for a yay or nay to the motion, or you may ask the board to vote by a raise of hands and ask for all in favor to raise, and then after the number of those in favor has been recorded, ask for any who might be opposed to the motion.
There must be a majority decision on a verdict. If there is not a majority reached, open the floor for more discussion to those who opposed, allowing them to voice their opinions on a verdict and why they oppose the proposed motion.
If a majority decision is reached on a verdict, call the defendant in and read to them the verdict voted on by the disciplinary board.
Upon reading the verdict, adjourn the meeting.
If the verdict of the defendant resulted in suspension from an office rather than dismissal, then schedule another meeting at the conclusion of the suspension period of the defendant to discuss reinstatement of the candidate.
Create a contract for the defendant to sign stating the rules to abide by while in the period of probation from office.
If the defendant has abided by the standards agreed upon in the contract, they are qualified to be placed in front of the disciplinary board for a follow up meeting. In this meeting you will follow the same guidelines as mentioned above and then allow the defendant to stand before the board and discuss how they feel about their time spent away from office. If the board feels that the defendant is prepared to take on the office. Discuss the defendant’s grades during the probationary period as well as their attendance history. If all is seen as satisfactory to the board, make a motion for reinstatement, and vote as was mentioned above in the first meeting.
