⭐ Meet Mr. Ward – 8th Grade Math!
Mr. Ward is beginning his fifth year in education after serving 20 years in the U.S. Army. This will be his fourth year at West Minico, where he enjoys helping students discover that there are many ways to solve a problem—both in math and in life.
One of Mr. Ward's favorite things about teaching middle school is watching students explore new ideas and figure out what interests them. His students quickly learn that he believes learning should be challenging, engaging, and fun. He works to create an environment where every student feels like they belong and is encouraged to take on new challenges with confidence.
When he's not at school, you'll likely find Mr. Ward hunting, spending time with his family and animals, or cheering on the Dallas Cowboys.

💙 We're grateful Mr. Ward is part of the Warrior family and for the leadership, encouragement, and sense of belonging he brings to our students every day!

Incoming 6th graders, you have a little homework before the first day of school—and we promise there’s no math involved! 😉
Find a combination lock and practice, practice, practice opening it. Left, right, left...then try it again! The more you practice now, the easier those first few days of middle school will be.
🔹 New this year: Every 6th grade student will be assigned their own locker, which means you’ll get plenty of opportunities to become a locker-opening pro!
🔹 7th & 8th graders will share lockers this year. On the first day of school, students will have an opportunity to request who they would like as their locker partner.
And 6th graders—don’t worry if you haven't mastered that lock by August 24. We'll have plenty of people ready to help you. Before long, you'll be opening it without even thinking about it!

Stronger Together
One of our goals at West Minico is to create more opportunities for students to learn, grow, and stay connected beyond the school day.
Last year, we introduced our Warrior Wellness Crew, an after-school program that gives students the opportunity to strengthen not only their bodies, but also their confidence, resilience, and overall well-being. Students met twice a week after school to build healthy habits while having fun and connecting with others.
To support this growing program, we used Community Schools Grant funding to create a space for students to develop healthy habits. Throughout the past year, this space was transformed into a safe, modern environment where students can learn proper strength training techniques, improve their fitness, and develop lifelong healthy habits.
Today, this space serves many of our Warriors—from students in our weights classes and athletic teams to those participating in Warrior Wellness Crew.
This investment is about more than new equipment. It's about creating opportunities for every student to grow stronger, build confidence, and discover new ways to be active.
We're excited to see our Warriors continue to benefit from this space in the year ahead!
